Role Overview
As an Engineering Intern at Wabtec Hosur, you will be embedded within the mechanical engineering team and assigned a dedicated mentor to guide your learning journey. The role is highly technical in nature — you will perform mechanical design and analysis tasks, participate in cross-functional collaboration, and contribute to real projects involving structures, IC engines, cooling systems, and vehicle dynamics. This internship is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry application, giving you exposure to professional-grade simulation tools, test labs, and engineering methodologies. You will be expected to apply principles such as DFMAS (Design Failure Mode & Avoidance Strategies), DFR (Design for Reliability), and DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) in your daily work, making it a rigorous and rewarding 6-month program.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Design Under Mentorship: Perform mechanical designs and execute assigned engineering projects under the close guidance of an experienced mentor, building foundational design skills in a professional environment.
- Simulation & Analysis Software: Learn and apply industry-standard tools including Ansys, ADAMS, GT Power, FEMFAT, LMS Suite, and Fluent to carry out engineering analysis, simulation, and performance evaluation tasks.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside cross-functional teams spanning design, testing, manufacturing, and program management to deliver assigned tasks on time and to specification.
- Design & Analysis Innovation: Propose and implement new design or analysis techniques and methodologies to improve accuracy, efficiency, or product quality within your assigned project scope.
- Structural & Thermal Analysis: Carry out stress analysis, thermo-mechanical design, vehicle dynamics studies, and engine performance optimization for rail and locomotive systems, including cooling & ventilation equipment.
- Reliability Engineering Principles: Apply DFMAS, DFR, and DFSS principles using tools such as Ansys, ADAMS, GT Power, FEMFAT, and Fluent to ensure designs meet reliability and performance targets from the outset.
- Test Lab & Validation Work: Use Wabtec’s in-house test laboratories — covering fatigue testing, combustion analysis, vibration testing, and material characterization — to validate designs and support the design verification process.
Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Qualification: Currently pursuing or recently completed B.Tech / B.E. / M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or allied engineering disciplines such as Structures, Dynamics, Thermal/Fluid Systems, IC Engines, Manufacturing, or Testing & Validation.
- Graduation Batch: Pre-final year or final year students graduating in 2025 or 2026 are eligible to apply.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with or willingness to learn engineering software tools including Ansys, ADAMS, GT Power, FEMFAT, LMS Suite, and Fluent; knowledge of stress analysis, IC engines, or mechatronics is an advantage.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats, as interns are expected to present project findings and interact with cross-functional teams.
- Availability: Must be available for a full 6-month on-site internship at the Hosur, Tamil Nadu location.
Selection Process
- Online Application Review: Your resume and academic profile are screened by the Wabtec talent acquisition team against the technical and eligibility criteria for the role.
- Technical Interview: Shortlisted candidates are invited for a technical discussion covering core mechanical engineering concepts, simulation tools, and problem-solving skills relevant to the internship projects.
- HR Discussion & Offer: Candidates who clear the technical round proceed to a final HR discussion covering availability, internship expectations, and logistics, following which offers are extended to selected candidates.
