HCLTech hires freshers through two very different doors: the TechBee early-career programme for 12th-pass students (starting ~₹1.7 LPA during training) and regular graduate hiring for engineering and science graduates (up to ~₹4.5 LPA). This guide explains both paths, the selection process, and how to prepare for each.
The two HCL entry paths
| Path | Who it’s for | Typical pay |
|---|---|---|
| TechBee | Class 12 pass-outs (PCM/commerce streams by role) | Stipend during training, then ~₹1.7–2.2 LPA growing with role |
| Graduate hiring | B.E/B.Tech/MCA/B.Sc graduates | ~₹3.5–4.5 LPA |
TechBee trades a lower start for a 3–4 year head-start in experience — by the time peers graduate, TechBee joiners often hold mid-level roles, and HCL sponsors higher education alongside work. Compare real take-home with the in-hand salary calculator.
Selection process — graduate hiring
Round 1, online assessment: quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability, plus a technical section (programming MCQs, pseudocode, basics of DBMS/OS/networks) and often 1–2 coding problems in C/C++/Java/Python. Round 2, technical interview: your projects, one language in depth, SQL queries, OOPs with examples, and occasionally a live coding exercise. Round 3, HR: relocation, shifts, service agreement discussion and standard behavioural questions. The most-repeated questions are collected in our HCL interview questions bank.
Selection process — TechBee
An entrance test (aptitude + basic English + elementary computer awareness at 12th level) followed by an interview with parents/guardians often invited to counselling sessions. Training runs ~6–12 months at HCL locations with a stipend; performance decides role placement. It’s a genuine job pipeline, not a course — treat the entrance test seriously.
Eligibility snapshot
Graduate hiring: typically 60% throughout, no active backlogs, full-time degree; both CS and circuit branches, and B.Sc/BCA for specific roles. TechBee: Class 12 with the stream/percentage stated in that intake (commonly 60%+). All current HCL and similar openings are tracked on the live drives page.
How to prepare (2–3 weeks)
Aptitude: daily timed sets — HCL’s sections match the standard mass-recruiter pattern, so these practice tests transfer directly. Technical: one language properly, SQL joins, and pseudocode reading. Interview: project story plus the real HCL questions. Resume: single-column ATS format via the free resume builder.
FAQs
Is TechBee worth it versus doing a degree first?
It depends on your goals: TechBee gives income and experience 4 years early and sponsors part-time higher education; campus route gives a full-time college experience and a higher starting package later. Both reach similar places by the late 20s for strong performers.
Does HCL have a bond?
HCL has used service agreements for entry roles, particularly TechBee (training investment); read the specific terms in your letter.
Which languages are accepted in the coding round?
C, C++, Java and Python are standard options.
Are there non-engineering roles?
Yes — HCL hires B.Sc/BCA/B.Com graduates for specific tech and operations tracks; each posting lists accepted degrees.
