The Bangalore office is a critical hub for HPE’s research, development, and operations, housing teams focused on cloud services, networking products, security solutions, and intelligent edge platforms. HPE is renowned for its commitment to technological excellence, employee development, and fostering a culture where innovation thrives. The company values collaborative problem-solving, continuous learning, and provides clear career progression paths for talented engineers who are passionate about building resilient, scalable systems.
Role Overview – Junior SRE Engineer
As a Junior Site Reliability Engineer at HPE, you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring that HPE’s Networking SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) products run reliably and efficiently at scale. Site Reliability Engineering is a discipline that combines software engineering principles with systems operations, focusing on automation, monitoring, and incident response. In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced SREs to maintain high availability, optimize system performance, troubleshoot complex production issues, and develop automation tools that reduce manual toil. This is an ideal position for freshers who are curious about how large-scale systems operate and are excited about the opportunity to make immediate technical impact in a hybrid work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring and Alerting Setup: Deploy, configure, and maintain monitoring solutions using Prometheus and Grafana to track the health of HPE’s networking products. You’ll set up meaningful alerts that detect issues early and minimize false positives, ensuring that the team can respond quickly to problems.
- Production Support and Troubleshooting: Respond to production incidents by analyzing logs, metrics, and system data to identify root causes. You’ll collaborate with development teams to resolve issues, implement hotfixes when necessary, and document lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
- Incident Management Participation: Participate in incident response activities, including on-call rotations where you’ll be the first responder to critical system issues. You’ll follow established incident protocols, escalate when needed, and contribute to post-incident reviews to improve system reliability.
- Container and Kubernetes Operations: Manage and support containerized applications running on Kubernetes clusters. You’ll monitor cluster health, manage deployments, troubleshoot networking issues, and ensure that applications are scaling and performing as expected.
- Automation and Tool Development: Write Python and shell scripts to automate repetitive operational tasks. Over time, you’ll build scripts that reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and accelerate incident response processes.
- Collaboration with Development Teams: Work closely with software engineers to understand application architecture, deployment procedures, and operational requirements. You’ll provide feedback on operational considerations during development and help engineers design systems with reliability in mind.
- Capacity Planning and Performance Optimization: Monitor system resource utilization, identify performance bottlenecks, and work with teams to optimize infrastructure efficiency. You’ll contribute to capacity planning efforts to ensure systems can handle growth and peak loads.
Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or closely related field from a recognized university.
- Batch Year: 2024 or 2025 batch graduates (currently pursuing final year or recently graduated within the last 2 years)
- Academic Performance: Consistent academic track record with strong performance in core computer science subjects. While specific CGPA cutoffs are not mandated, foundational knowledge is essential.
- Technical Skills: Solid understanding of Linux operating systems, TCP/IP networking, and DNS fundamentals. Basic knowledge of Python or shell scripting is preferred. Familiarity with containerization concepts, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), or monitoring tools is a plus.
- Communication Skills: Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills and a mindset oriented toward continuous improvement and learning.
Selection Process
The HPE Off Campus Drive 2026 uses a systematic selection process designed to identify candidates with the right blend of technical knowledge, problem-solving ability, and reliability culture fit:
- Round 1 – Online Technical Assessment: A timed assessment covering Linux fundamentals, networking concepts, basic scripting questions, and system design scenarios. This round evaluates your foundational knowledge and analytical thinking.
- Round 2 – Technical Interview: An in-depth conversation with an HPE SRE about your understanding of systems operations, monitoring, incident response, and cloud technologies. Expect scenario-based questions like “How would you debug a high CPU issue?” or “Walk me through monitoring a microservices application.”
- Round 3 – Hiring Manager Interview: A discussion with the team’s hiring manager about your career goals, motivation for SRE, ability to work in fast-paced environments, and cultural alignment with HPE’s values of reliability, automation, and continuous learning.
Salary & Benefits
HPE offers competitive compensation for this role, complemented by comprehensive benefits including health insurance, professional development allowances, access to technical training and certifications, mentorship from experienced SREs, and a hybrid work arrangement that balances office collaboration with remote flexibility. Additionally, you’ll gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies and contribute to products used by enterprises worldwide.
