Role Overview – Data Center Technicians Intern
As a Data Center Technician Intern at Microsoft’s CO+I division in Hyderabad, you will work at the physical heart of cloud computing — the datacenter. Your role involves deploying, installing, and maintaining the hardware infrastructure that keeps Microsoft’s cloud services running for over a billion users globally. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in enterprise-scale IT operations, working alongside world-class engineers in one of Microsoft’s strategic datacenter facilities in India.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Deployment: Support the deployment of on-site datacenter physical infrastructure including servers, networking equipment, and storage systems in a systematic and efficient manner.
- Hardware Installation & Troubleshooting: Install, replace, and troubleshoot cables, hardware components, and data-bearing devices such as hard drives and solid-state drives with precision and attention to safety protocols.
- Inventory & Asset Management: Assist the Datacenter Inventory and Asset Management Team (DIAT) with shipping, receiving, and inventory management activities to ensure accurate tracking of assets.
- Ticket-Based Operations: Work within a structured ticket-based environment to prioritize and complete work orders for hardware maintenance, replacements, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Equipment Handling: Move and transport equipment using pallet jacks or other assisted lifting equipment safely, following Microsoft’s occupational health and safety standards.
- Culture & Values: Embody Microsoft’s culture of inclusion, growth mindset, and collaboration — contributing positively to team dynamics and the broader datacenter operations community.
Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Qualification: High School Diploma or equivalent is required as a minimum. Candidates pursuing or having completed a diploma or degree in Computer Science, IT, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering are strongly preferred.
- Age Requirement: Must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of joining.
- Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen or have valid residency and work eligibility in India. A Microsoft Cloud background check will be required.
- Technical Knowledge: Basic knowledge of computer hardware and components is required. Familiarity with CompTIA A+, Server+, or Network+ certifications is an added advantage.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to support frequent standing, walking, lifting, and working at heights with or without equipment assistance.
- Communication: Proficient written and oral English communication skills to work with regional and global teams effectively.

The Microsoft Internship 2026 Data Center Technician role follows a structured screening process:
- Round 1 – Application Screening: Microsoft’s recruitment team reviews applications for basic eligibility, technical background, and interest alignment.
- Round 2 – Technical/HR Interview: A virtual or in-person interview assessing your hardware knowledge, problem-solving ability, and work ethic. Communication skills and teamwork orientation are key evaluation areas.
- Round 3 – Background Verification: Microsoft Cloud background check as per company and government security screening requirements.
