Role Overview – Graduate Engineer Trainee – Test & Validation

As a Graduate Engineer Trainee in Test & Validation at Valeo, Chennai, you will work within the product engineering team to design, execute, and document test plans for automotive software and hardware systems. This role provides freshers with direct exposure to cutting-edge automotive validation processes — learning how Valeo ensures that every component and system meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance before it goes into a vehicle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Software & Hardware Testing: Design and execute test cases for automotive embedded software and hardware components, validating that systems meet functional, performance, and safety requirements.
  • Validation Protocols: Follow and contribute to structured automotive validation protocols aligned with industry standards such as ISO 26262, ASPICE, and OEM-specific test requirements.
  • Bug Reporting & Defect Management: Identify, document, and track software and hardware defects using defect management tools. Communicate findings clearly to development teams and monitor resolution progress.
  • Technical Analysis & Root Cause Investigation: Perform root cause analysis on test failures, analysing logs, traces, and test data to identify systemic issues and support engineering teams in resolving them.
  • Test Bench Setup & Maintenance: Set up and maintain test benches and HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) rigs used for automotive system validation — ensuring test environments are correctly configured and calibrated.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed test reports, validation summaries, and technical documentation in compliance with Valeo’s quality and process standards.
  • Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams: Work closely with software developers, hardware engineers, and project managers to align on test scope, timelines, and quality gates across the product development lifecycle.
