Role Overview – Graduate Trainee, Software Engineering

As a Graduate Trainee on the Threat Intelligence team at Calix, you will dive into the intersection of software engineering and cybersecurity — building and maintaining backend automation services, database systems, and lightweight frontend dashboards that power real-time threat detection. This is a hands-on role where your code ships to production, and your work directly helps protect the networks of thousands of broadband providers and their subscribers. You will be mentored by experienced engineers while contributing meaningfully from day one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Backend Development: Design, develop, and test backend automation services and frameworks using Python. Write clean, scalable code that integrates with security data pipelines and detection systems.
  • Database Management: Work with relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB) to store, query, and manage threat intelligence data efficiently.
  • Web Framework Integration: Build and maintain backend services using Django and/or Flask frameworks for data processing and analysis pipelines used by the Threat Intelligence team.
  • Threat Detection Support: Assist in implementing and optimizing detection algorithms that identify security threats in real time, working closely with security researchers on automation engineering.
  • Frontend Dashboards: Implement basic UI components and monitoring dashboards using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to visualize threat data and system health metrics.
  • Version Control & CI/CD: Use Git for version control, participate in code reviews, and contribute to continuous integration and deployment pipelines to maintain code quality and delivery velocity.
  • Agile Workflow: Track tasks and manage sprint activities using JIRA, participate in sprint planning sessions, and apply Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) concepts to solve real engineering problems.
  • Documentation: Document code, internal workflows, and technical learnings to support team knowledge sharing and onboarding of future engineers.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (completed or pursuing final year) in Computer Science or Information Technology from a recognized university.
  • Batch Year: Candidates who graduated in 2024 or are graduating in 2025 are eligible. Final-year students can also apply.
  • Technical Skills: Strong programming knowledge in Python, understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms, and familiarity with relational and non-relational databases. Exposure to Django/Flask, REST APIs, and basic frontend (HTML, CSS, JS) is required.
  • Version Control: Experience with Git and ability to debug and understand existing codebases. Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and Linux environments is a plus.
